The Challenge: Drilling in Difficult Ground
Drilling through loose overburden like sand, gravel, or backfill often leads to collapsing holes, stuck equipment, and significant project delays. In fractured or weathered rock, borehole integrity is constantly at risk, making it nearly impossible to achieve a clean, stable hole for piling or anchoring. These challenging ground conditions demand more than just a standard drill bit—they require a complete engineered system.
Our Solution: The Innovative Eccentric Mechanism
MSD's Eccentric Casing System provides a robust and efficient solution. This innovative system consists of a pilot bit and an integrated, swing-out reamer wing. During forward drilling, the reamer swings out to enlarge the borehole, allowing the 159mm casing to advance simultaneously with the drill string. This process drills and cases the hole in a single, fast operation. Once the desired depth is reached, a slight reverse rotation retracts the reamer, allowing the entire drill bit to be retrieved, leaving the casing in place.
Key Features and Advantages
Fast Drilling and Casing: The aggressive design of the eccentric system allows for high penetration rates, making it one of the fastest methods for simultaneously drilling and casing a hole.
Fully Retrievable and Reusable: The entire pilot bit and reamer assembly can be fully retrieved from the hole upon completion, ready for use on the next borehole. This significantly reduces tooling costs per project.
Simple and Robust Design: With fewer moving parts, the eccentric system is exceptionally robust, reliable, and easy to use on-site, minimizing the risk of operational issues.
Optimized for Low Air Pressure: The pilot bit features a CIR110 shank, specifically designed to work efficiently with economical, low-pressure DTH Hammers, even when drilling larger 159mm holes.
Primary Applications
Foundation Piling: The primary application. Its speed and reliability make it the ideal choice for installing 159mm foundation piles through any type of overburden with smaller rigs.
Deep Ground Anchoring: A perfect system for installing deep, large-diameter ground anchors for retaining walls and slope stabilization projects.
Geothermal Well Casing: A cost-effective method for drilling and casing geothermal loops quickly, especially in residential or commercial projects.
