MSD supplies PDC core bits for mineral exploration and geological, geotechnical, and environmental core drilling across T2, T6, H, P, and S gauge systems.
MSD PDC Core Bits are organized below by T2 Metric, T6 Metric, H Gauge, P Gauge, and S Gauge configurations. Use the parameter tables to compare Size / System, Outside Diameter, and Inside Diameter before confirming the required drilling configuration. Reference applications include geotechnical investigation, environmental investigation, and mineral exploration; PDC core bits are typically used in softer to medium-hard formations, with water, polymer, or air flushing selected according to the drilling program.
| Size / System | Outside Diameter (mm) | Inside Diameter (mm) |
|---|---|---|
| T2-66 | 66.12 / 65.87 | 51.81 / 51.565 |
| T2-76 | 76.12 / 75.87 | 61.82 / 61.57 |
| T2-76 Coreliner | 76.12 / 75.87 | 58.12 / 57.87 |
| T2-86 | 86.13 / 85.58 | 71.83 / 71.58 |
| T2-86 Coreliner | 86.13 / 85.58 | 68.13 / 67.88 |
| T2-101 | 101.12 / 100.8 | 83.82 / 83.57 |
| T2-101 Coreliner | 101.12 / 100.8 | 80.13 / 79.88 |

CASE STUDIES
MSD supplies PDC core bits for mineral exploration, geological exploration, geotechnical investigation, environmental investigation, and related core drilling programs.
A PDC core bit uses polycrystalline diamond compact cutters positioned on the crown to remove formation material while leaving a central core. The cutter arrangement, exposure, bit dimensions, and flushing paths must work with the selected coring system and drilling conditions.
Polycrystalline diamond core bit is useful supporting terminology in this exploration context. PCD core bit also appears in parts of the market, but naming conventions vary and should not be treated as proof of identical cutter material, bit construction, or compatibility without technical confirmation.
A PDC core drill bit removes rock primarily through cutting and shearing action as the rotating cutter edges engage the formation. This differs from conventional diamond coring mechanisms that depend more heavily on grinding and abrasive contact at the crown face.
Cutter exposure and support influence how the cutting edges enter the rock and how load is distributed around the crown. Effective flushing is needed to cool the cutting area and carry generated cuttings away without unnecessarily disturbing the recovered core.
Cutting response is formation- and system-dependent. A PDC configuration should not be assumed to drill faster or last longer in every condition; abrasiveness, impact loading, rig capability, flushing, rotational speed, applied load, and operator control all affect actual performance.
Exploration PDC core bits are commonly considered for suitable softer, weaker, non-consolidated, sedimentary, and certain medium-hard formations. The useful application range depends on bit design, cutter exposure, drilling system, and operating conditions rather than a simple soft-rock classification.
Selection should consider formation hardness, competency, consolidation, fracturing, abrasiveness, grain structure, and changes between drilling intervals. These characteristics affect cutter engagement, torque response, cuttings generation, flushing demand, and the likelihood of impact damage.
Core quality requirements are also important in geotechnical and environmental investigation. Where ground is loose, fractured, or sensitive to flushing, the complete bit, core barrel, Coreliner option, flushing medium, and operating method should be reviewed together.
The current PDC core bit range is organized into T2 Metric, T6 Metric, H Gauge, P Gauge, and S Gauge configurations. Available rows include standard and Coreliner designations where shown in the existing parameter tables.
Each row provides a Size / System designation with Outside Diameter and Inside Diameter values in millimetres. These paired values should be used exactly as published for the selected row; a nominal system name alone does not confirm the required dimensions or interchangeability.
The current T2-86 Coreliner specification retains an Inside Diameter of 68.13 / 67.88 mm. Customers should use the complete parameter row and confirm the matching barrel, liner, connections, and required core size before ordering.
Water, polymer, or air flushing can be considered according to the drilling program. The selected medium and flow arrangement must support cutter cooling and cuttings removal while remaining appropriate for the formation, core-quality objective, borehole condition, equipment, and investigation method.
Rig power and torque, available RPM, weight on bit or feed control, drilling depth, cutter exposure, and observed vibration or torque should be reviewed together. Operating settings should be adjusted to the selected bit and ground response rather than copied from an unrelated drilling program.
Compared with impregnated or surface set diamond core bits, a PDC bit uses a different cutting mechanism and may respond differently to changes in hardness, abrasiveness, competency, and fracturing. These product types should be compared as application-dependent options, not as a fixed soft-to-hard ranking.
MSD is a China-based rock drilling tools manufacturer supplying exploration drilling products and technical selection support. The team can review standard requirements, replacement configurations, and non-standard requests before confirming an available product configuration.
For a recommendation or quotation, provide the required T2, T6, H, P, or S gauge family, exact Size / System designation, required Outside Diameter and Inside Diameter, standard or Coreliner requirement, drilling application, formation description, target depth, and quantity.
Also provide formation hardness, competency, consolidation, fracturing, abrasiveness, core-quality requirements, rig capability, available RPM, feed or weight-on-bit information, and the intended water, polymer, or air flushing arrangement.
For a replacement wireline PDC core bit or another existing configuration, send the current markings, dimensions, connection details, core-barrel information, photographs, drawings, and observed wear or drilling behavior. Final selection remains subject to technical confirmation of the complete drilling system and operating conditions.
