10-15 Inch DTH Bits in 254–600 mm Diameters

MSD supplies 10–15 inch DTH bits with N100, SD10, MSD12A, DHD1120, N125, SD12, and MSD14A Bit Shank options. The confirmed product range includes configurations from 254 to 600 mm in diameter.

The seven Shank groups do not use one uniform specification structure. N100, SD10, DHD1120, N125, and SD12 are listed with Face Design, Gauge Buttons, Front Buttons, Button Shape, Splines, and Weight. MSD12A and MSD14A are listed with Gauge Buttons, Front Buttons, Back Buttons, Air Holes, and Weight.

Diameter availability, button configuration, button shape, spline count, back-button arrangement, air-hole count, and weight depend on the selected Shank and specification. The complete parameter table should therefore be checked rather than selecting a bit from the nominal 10, 12, 14, or 15 inch classification alone.


Available Bit Shanks and Diameter Groups

The confirmed product table includes seven Bit Shank groups: N100, SD10, MSD12A, DHD1120, N125, SD12, and MSD14A.

N100 and SD10 — Listed in 254, 275, 305, 325, 350, and 400 mm diameters.

MSD12A — Listed in 311, 330, 357, 400, and 445 mm diameters.

DHD1120, N125, and SD12 — Each listed in 305, 311, 325, 350, 381, 400, 445, and 500 mm diameters.

MSD14A — Listed in 400, 508, 550, and 600 mm diameters.

The overall page range is 254–600 mm, but this does not mean every Shank is available in every intermediate diameter.


N100 and SD10 Configuration Differences

N100 and SD10 use the same six confirmed diameters and the same listed Face Design and button layouts at each diameter. All listed configurations use a Convex-Concave Face.

N100 — Listed with Domed buttons and 10 splines.

SD10 — Listed with Spherical buttons and 8 splines.

Their listed weights differ at each diameter. The Gauge Button and Front Button configurations also change as diameter increases. For example, the 254 mm configurations use 12 × Ø19 mm Gauge Buttons and 8 × Ø18 mm plus 19 × Ø16 mm Front Buttons, while the 400 mm configurations use 16 × Ø19 mm Gauge Buttons and 40 × Ø18 mm plus 25 × Ø16 mm Front Buttons.


DHD1120, N125, and SD12 Configuration Differences

DHD1120, N125, and SD12 share the same eight confirmed diameters and the same listed Face Design, Gauge Button, and Front Button configurations at each diameter. All listed configurations use a Convex-Concave Face.

DHD1120 — Listed with Domed buttons and 8 splines.

N125 — Listed with Domed buttons and 10 splines.

SD12 — Listed with Spherical buttons and 8 splines.

Weight varies by both diameter and Shank. The listed configurations extend from 305 to 500 mm. At 305 mm, the tables list 15 × Ø20 mm Gauge Buttons and 27 × Ø18 mm plus 8 × Ø16 mm Front Buttons. At 500 mm, they list 24 × Ø20 mm Gauge Buttons and 90 × Ø18 mm Front Buttons.


MSD12A and MSD14A Large-Diameter Configurations

MSD12A and MSD14A use a different parameter format from the other five Shank groups. Their tables list Diameter, Gauge Buttons, Front Buttons, Back Buttons, Air Holes, and Weight.

Face Design, Button Shape, and Splines are not listed for MSD12A or MSD14A and should be confirmed separately when they are ordering requirements.

All listed MSD12A and MSD14A configurations use 3 Air Holes.

MSD12A covers 311–445 mm, while MSD14A covers 400–600 mm. Their Front Button and Back Button arrangements vary substantially by diameter and should be checked against the exact row of the selected configuration.


Button Shapes, Splines, Back Buttons, and Weight

The parameter table uses Domed and Spherical as distinct Button Shape descriptions.

N100 — Domed, 10 splines, 89–146.5 kg.

SD10 — Spherical, 8 splines, 83.2–140.7 kg.

MSD12A — Back Buttons and 3 Air Holes are listed; weight range 140–275 kg.

DHD1120 — Domed, 8 splines, 141.3–331.2 kg.

N125 — Domed, 10 splines, 175.5–322 kg.

SD12 — Spherical, 8 splines, 146.5–293 kg.

MSD14A — Back Buttons and 3 Air Holes are listed; weight range 255–550 kg.

The exact weight should be checked against the selected row rather than estimated from the nominal size.


Matching the Bit With the DTH Hammer

The nominal 10, 12, 14, or 15 inch classification is only the first selection step. The DTH bit must use the Bit Shank required by the exact hammer model, and the selected bit diameter must remain within the confirmed hole range of that hammer.

The confirmed hammer and Bit Shank pairings are N100 hammer with N100 shank, SD10 hammer with SD10 shank, DHD1120 hammer with DHD1120 shank, N125 hammer with N125 shank, and SD12 hammer with SD12 shank.

The current confirmed hammer hole ranges are Ø254–311 mm for N100 and SD10, Ø295–400 mm for DHD1120 and SD12, and Ø330–400 mm for N125.

N100 — 254, 275, and 305 mm fall within the confirmed range. The listed 325, 350, and 400 mm configurations require separate review.

SD10 — 254, 275, and 305 mm fall within the confirmed range. The listed 325, 350, and 400 mm configurations require separate review.

DHD1120 and SD12 — 305, 311, 325, 350, 381, and 400 mm fall within the confirmed ranges. The listed 445 and 500 mm configurations require separate review.

Typical Drilling Applications

These 10–15 inch DTH bit configurations may be reviewed for large-diameter mining and blast-hole drilling, quarrying, water-well drilling, foundation and piling work, construction, infrastructure, and other large-diameter rock-drilling projects where the required diameter and complete drilling system are suitable.

Final selection should be based on the exact hammer model, Bit Shank, confirmed hole range, drill string, rig capacity, rock formation, hole depth, available air supply, and operating conditions. No specific Button Shape or Button Layout should be assigned to a particular formation unless the actual project requirements have been reviewed.

Hammer Model — Exact hammer model or currently used drilling system.
