Explore MSD 8 inch DTH bits in confirmed 203–305 mm diameters with MSD8A, DHD380, QL80, MISSION80, and SD8 shanks for selection and hammer matching.
MSD supplies 8 inch DTH bits with MSD8A, DHD380, QL80, MISSION80, and SD8 shank options. The confirmed parameter table lists 203, 216, 230, 235, 254, 275, and 305 mm diameters, with concave or convex-concave face designs and shank-specific button shapes, spline counts, button layouts, and weights. The 8 inch designation is the nominal product and shank classification; final selection requires confirmation of the exact bit shank, diameter, and hammer hole range.

CASE STUDIES
MSD supplies 8 inch DTH bits with MSD8A, DHD380, QL80, MISSION80, and SD8 Bit Shank options. The confirmed parameter table lists 203, 216, 230, 235, 254, 275, and 305 mm bit diameters.
The 8 inch designation is the nominal product and Shank classification. It does not mean that every listed bit diameter is close to 8 inches or that every configuration is automatically covered by the current 8 inch hammer hole ranges. Selection must be based on the exact Bit Shank, listed diameter, parameter configuration, and verified hammer data.
The confirmed range includes five Bit Shank options: MSD8A, DHD380, QL80, MISSION80, and SD8.
Each Bit Shank tab currently lists seven diameters: 203, 216, 230, 235, 254, 275, and 305 mm.
The required Bit Shank must be confirmed against the exact DTH hammer model or the existing drilling system. Similar nominal hammer or bit sizes do not establish that different Shank systems are interchangeable.
203 and 216 mm configurations — Concave Face, 10ר18 mm Gauge Buttons, and 4ר18 mm + 10ר16 mm Front Buttons.
230 and 235 mm configurations — Concave Face, 12ר18 mm Gauge Buttons, and 12ר18 mm + 6ר16 mm Front Buttons.
254 mm configurations — Concave Face, 12ר18 mm Gauge Buttons, and 12ר18 mm + 8ר16 mm Front Buttons.
275 mm configurations — Convex-Concave Face and 12ר18 mm Gauge Buttons. MSD8A, QL80, and MISSION80 list 8ר16 mm + 19ר16 mm Front Buttons; DHD380 and SD8 list 27ר16 mm Front Buttons.
305 mm configurations — Convex-Concave Face and 15ר18 mm Gauge Buttons. MSD8A, QL80, and MISSION80 list 12ר16 mm + 23ר16 mm Front Buttons; DHD380 and SD8 list 35ר16 mm Front Buttons.
The 203–254 mm configurations use Concave Face designs, while the 275 and 305 mm configurations use Convex-Concave Face designs. Use the selected Shank tab as the controlling source for the exact Front Button notation.
MSD8A — Domed buttons, 10 splines, and listed weights from 48.5 to 77.6 kg.
DHD380 — Domed buttons, 10 splines, and listed weights from 48.5 to 77.6 kg.
QL80 — Domed buttons, 16 splines, and listed weights from 48.2 to 77.3 kg.
MISSION80 — Spherical buttons, 12 splines, and listed weights from 41.2 to 71.3 kg.
SD8 — Spherical buttons, 8 splines, and listed weights from 41.3 to 70.5 kg.
Weight varies by both diameter and Bit Shank. Confirm the exact value in the selected parameter tab rather than applying one range to every configuration.
The DTH bit must first use the Bit Shank required by the exact hammer model. The confirmed model-to-Shank pairings are MSD8A hammer with MSD8A Shank, DHD380 with DHD380, QL80 with QL80, M80 with MISSION80, and SD8 with SD8.
Bit Shank matching alone does not confirm the complete configuration. The selected bit diameter must also be checked against the confirmed hole range of the exact hammer model:
MSD8A hammer — Ø198–254 mm.
DHD380 hammer — Ø195–254 mm.
QL80 hammer — Ø195–254 mm.
M80 hammer with MISSION80 Shank — Ø195–245 mm.
SD8 hammer — Ø195–254 mm.
The listed 203, 216, 230, and 235 mm bits fall within the confirmed hole ranges of their corresponding current hammer models. The 254 mm MISSION80 configuration exceeds the confirmed Ø195–245 mm range of the current M80 hammer. All listed 275 and 305 mm configurations exceed the confirmed hole ranges of the five current 8 inch hammer models.
These configurations require separate confirmation or technical review against another verified hammer configuration, special system, or project requirement. They must not be treated as automatically compatible or incompatible from the Bit Shank name or nominal 8 inch classification alone.
For replacement orders, provide the complete hammer model, current bit marking, required Bit Shank, required bit diameter, finished hole diameter, and clear product photos or drawings before the configuration is confirmed.
These 8 inch DTH bit configurations may be reviewed for mining blast-hole, water-well, construction, foundation, and infrastructure drilling projects where the required diameter and complete drilling system are suitable.
Final selection should be based on the exact hammer model, Bit Shank, confirmed hammer hole range, rock formation, drill string, rig, compressor, and operating conditions. The current parameter data does not assign a specific Face Design or Button Shape to a particular formation or guarantee a specific drilling result.
To confirm a suitable 8 inch DTH bit, provide the following information:
Required Bit and Finished Hole Diameter — Required bit diameter and finished hole diameter in millimeters.
DTH Hammer Model — Exact hammer model used in the drilling system.
Bit Shank — Required MSD8A, DHD380, QL80, MISSION80, or SD8 Shank.
Current Product Information — Current bit model or marking, where available.
Reference Materials — Clear photos or drawings of the current bit and Shank.
Required Configuration — Required Face Design, Gauge Buttons, Front Buttons, Button Shape, or other configuration details, if already known.
Working Conditions — Rock formation, abrasiveness, drilling application, hole depth, and drill-rig model. Provide compressor rated pressure and discharge capacity when MSD is reviewing the hammer and complete drilling system.
Order Requirement — Required quantity.
For replacement orders, the existing hammer model, Bit Shank, current bit details, and confirmed hammer hole range take priority over the general 8 inch classification.
MSD is a China-based manufacturer of rock drilling tools supplying DTH hammers, DTH drill bits, drilling components, and related products.
MSD supports configuration review based on the required diameter, exact hammer model, Bit Shank, and complete drilling system. This helps customers identify configurations that require additional technical confirmation before ordering and reduces the risk of selecting from nominal size alone.
