8 Inch DTH Bits in 203–305 mm Diameters

MSD supplies 8 inch DTH bits with MSD8A, DHD380, QL80, MISSION80, and SD8 Bit Shank options. The confirmed product range includes 203, 216, 230, 235, 254, 275, and 305 mm bit diameters.

The listed configurations include concave and convex-concave face designs. Gauge-button and front-button configurations vary mainly by diameter, button shape and spline count vary by Bit Shank, and weight varies by both diameter and Bit Shank. The complete configuration should therefore be checked rather than selecting the bit from the nominal 8 inch classification alone.


Available Bit Shanks

The confirmed 8 inch DTH bit range includes five Bit Shank options: MSD8A, DHD380, QL80, MISSION80, and SD8.

Each Bit Shank group is currently listed in 203, 216, 230, 235, 254, 275, and 305 mm diameters.

The required Bit Shank must be confirmed against the exact DTH hammer model or the existing drilling system. A similar nominal hammer or bit size does not establish that different Shank systems are interchangeable.

203 and 216 mm configurations — Use a Concave Face, 10 × Ø18 mm Gauge Buttons, and 4 × Ø18 mm plus 10 × Ø16 mm Front Buttons.

230 and 235 mm configurations — Use a Concave Face, 12 × Ø18 mm Gauge Buttons, and 12 × Ø18 mm plus 6 × Ø16 mm Front Buttons.

254 mm configurations — Use a Concave Face, 12 × Ø18 mm Gauge Buttons, and 12 × Ø18 mm plus 8 × Ø16 mm Front Buttons.

275 mm configurations — Use a Convex-Concave Face and 12 × Ø18 mm Gauge Buttons. They use 27 × Ø16 mm Front Buttons in total.

The 203–254 mm configurations use Concave Face designs, while the 275 and 305 mm configurations use Convex-Concave Face designs. Gauge-button quantities and Front Button configurations also change as the listed diameter increases.

Bit Shank matching alone does not confirm the complete configuration. The selected bit diameter must also be checked against the confirmed hole range of the exact hammer model. The current hammer data confirms Ø198–254 mm for MSD8A, Ø195–254 mm for DHD380, Ø195–254 mm for QL80, Ø195–245 mm for M80, and Ø195–254 mm for SD8.

The listed 203, 216, 230, and 235 mm configurations fall within the confirmed hole ranges of all five corresponding hammer models.

The 254 mm MISSION80 configuration and all listed 275 and 305 mm configurations are not covered by the confirmed hole ranges of the five current 8 inch hammer models shown on MSD's hammer page. They require separate confirmation against another verified hammer configuration, special system, or project requirement.

They should not be assumed to match solely because the nominal size or Bit Shank designation is the same.

For replacement orders, provide the complete hammer model, current bit marking, required Bit Shank, required bit diameter, finished hole diameter, and product photos or drawings before the configuration is confirmed.
