10-15 Inch DTH Hammers

10-15 Inch DTH Hammers

MSD offers five 10, 12, and 15 inch DTH hammer models for Ø254–400 mm drilling: N100, SD10, DHD1120, SD12, and N125. All operate at 1.5–3.3 MPa, with model-specific shanks, diameters, top sub threads, rotation speeds, hole ranges, and air consumption.

Product descriptions

MSD 10–15 inch DTH hammers are available in N100, SD10, DHD1120, SD12, and N125 configurations for approximately 254–400 mm hole diameters. The available models use Ø225–305 mm outer diameters and API 5 1/2" REG or API 6 5/8" REG connection threads, while their bit shanks, lengths, weights, hole ranges, recommended rotation speeds, and air consumption differ. Confirm the required hole diameter, bit shank, drill-pipe connection, compressor pressure, and compressor capacity before ordering.

Frequently Asked
Questions

The five models collectively cover Ø254–400 mm drilling, but each model has its own confirmed range:

  • N100 DTH hammer: Ø254–311 mm

  • SD10 DTH hammer: Ø254–311 mm

  • DHD1120 DTH hammer: Ø295–400 mm

  • SD12 DTH hammer: Ø295–400 mm

  • N125 DTH hammer: Ø330–400 mm

The required hole diameter should be checked against the exact range of the selected model.

The available models and corresponding bit shanks are:

  • N100 DTH hammer: NUMA100 bit shank

  • SD10 DTH hammer: SD10 bit shank

  • DHD1120 DTH hammer: DHD1120 bit shank

  • SD12 DTH hammer: SD12 bit shank

  • N125 DTH hammer: NUMA125 bit shank

A similar nominal size or overlapping hole range does not automatically confirm compatibility. The selected drill bit or existing drilling system should be used to confirm the required bit shank and hammer model.

Selection should be based on the exact model parameters rather than the nominal inch designation alone. The N100 and SD10 use Ø225 mm hammer bodies and API 5 1/2" REG top sub threads. The DHD1120 and SD12 use Ø275 mm bodies and API 6 5/8" REG threads, while the N125 uses an Ø305 mm body and API 6 5/8" REG thread.

All five models have a confirmed working pressure range of 1.5–3.3 MPa. The N100, SD10, DHD1120, and SD12 have a recommended rotation speed of 25–50 r/min, while the N125 is rated at 25–45 r/min. The required hole diameter, bit shank, top sub thread, drill-string arrangement, rig capacity, and available air supply should all be checked.

Check the compressor's rated pressure and rated discharge capacity against the selected hammer's air consumption at the intended operating pressure.

  • N100 and SD10: 40 m³/min at 1.8 MPa; 60 m³/min at 2.4 MPa

  • DHD1120 and SD12: 50 m³/min at 1.8 MPa; 70 m³/min at 2.4 MPa

  • N125: 46 m³/min at 1.8 MPa; 58 m³/min at 2.4 MPa

The compressor should provide the required pressure and sufficient discharge capacity for the listed air consumption. Air requirements should not be estimated from nominal hammer size or extrapolated beyond the confirmed pressure points.

Please provide:

  • required hole diameter;

  • preferred hammer model, if already known;

  • required bit shank;

  • current DTH bit model, if available;

  • top sub thread and drill-pipe connection;

  • any adapter used in the drill string;

  • drill-rig model and capacity;

  • compressor rated pressure;

  • compressor rated discharge capacity;

  • drilling application;

  • rock formation;

  • expected hole depth;

  • any current compatibility or operating problem.

This information allows the hammer, drill bit, drill string, rig, connection arrangement, and compressor to be checked before the final configuration is confirmed.
