18-24 Inch DTH Hammers

18-24 Inch DTH Hammers

MSD offers three 18, 20, and 24 inch DTH hammer models for Ø450–864 mm drilling: N180, QL200, and N240. Their bit shanks, body diameters, connection types, hole ranges, lengths, weights, and air consumption differ by model.

Product descriptions

MSD 18–24 inch DTH hammers are available in N180, QL200, and N240 configurations for approximately 450–864 mm hole diameters. The available models use Ø400–525 mm outer diameters with API 8 5/8" REG, 8 5/8" API, or Hex 275 connection types, while their bit shanks, lengths, weights, hole ranges, and air consumption differ. Confirm the required hole diameter, bit shank, drill-pipe or backhead connection, compressor pressure, and compressor capacity before ordering.

Frequently Asked
Questions

The three models collectively cover Ø450–864 mm drilling, but each model has its own confirmed range:

  • N180 DTH hammer: Ø450–600 mm

  • QL200 DTH hammer: Ø457–610 mm

  • N240 DTH hammer: Ø610–864 mm

The N180 and QL200 ranges overlap from Ø457 mm to Ø600 mm, while the QL200 and N240 both include Ø610 mm. The required hole diameter should be checked against the exact range of the selected model.

The available models and corresponding bit shanks are:

  • N180 DTH hammer: NUMA180 bit shank

  • QL200 DTH hammer: QL200 bit shank

  • N240 DTH hammer: NUMA240 bit shank

A similar nominal size or overlapping hole range does not automatically confirm compatibility. The selected drill bit or existing drilling system should be used to confirm the required bit shank and hammer model.

The three models use different hammer bodies and connection types:

  • N180: Ø406 mm outer diameter, API 8 5/8" REG connection, 2162 mm length, and 1464 kg weight

  • QL200: Ø400 mm outer diameter, 8 5/8" API connection, 1659 mm length, and 1177 kg weight

  • N240: Ø525 mm outer diameter, Hex 275 connection, 2016 mm length, and 2550 kg weight

The exact connection description should be retained for each model. The drill pipe, adapter, rotation-head arrangement, and drill-rig capacity should be checked before confirming the configuration.

Check the compressor's rated pressure and rated discharge capacity against the selected hammer's listed air consumption at the relevant pressure point:

  • N180: 63 m³/min at 1.8 MPa; 85 m³/min at 2.4 MPa

  • QL200: Approx. 134 m³/min at 1.8 MPa; Approx. 183 m³/min at 2.4 MPa

  • N240: Approx. 186 m³/min at 1.8 MPa; Approx. 259 m³/min at 2.4 MPa

The QL200 and N240 values are approximate. The 1.8 MPa and 2.4 MPa figures are air-consumption reference points and should not be interpreted as a complete working-pressure range.

Please provide:

  • required hole diameter;

  • preferred hammer model, if already known;

  • required bit shank;

  • current DTH bit model, if available;

  • required connection type;

  • drill-pipe connection;

  • any adapter used in the drill string;

  • drill-rig model and capacity;

  • compressor rated pressure;

  • compressor rated discharge capacity;

  • drilling application;

  • rock formation;

  • expected hole depth;

  • any handling, connection, compatibility, or operating requirement.

This information allows the hammer, drill bit, drill string, connection arrangement, rig, and compressor to be checked before the final configuration is confirmed.
