MSD offers five 3 inch DTH hammer models for Ø90–115 mm drilling: MSD3A, DHD3.5, M30, COP32, and IR3.5. All have Ø82 mm bodies, with model-specific bit shanks, hole ranges, top sub threads, pressure ranges, rotation speeds, and air consumption.
MSD 3 inch DTH hammers are available in MSD3A, DHD3.5, M30, IR3.5, and COP32 configurations for approximately 90–115 mm hole diameters. These models share a compact Ø82 mm outer diameter, while their compatible bit shanks, lengths, weights, working pressure, recommended rotation speed, and air consumption differ. Confirm the required hole diameter, bit shank, drill-pipe connection, compressor pressure, and compressor capacity before ordering.

MSD offers five 3 inch DTH hammer configurations that collectively cover Ø90–115 mm drilling: MSD3A, DHD3.5, M30, COP32, and IR3.5. The exact hole range depends on the selected model. The MSD3A, M30, COP32, and IR3.5 models cover Ø90–115 mm holes, while the DHD3.5 model covers Ø90–110 mm holes.
This 3 inch DTH hammer collection also includes DHD3.5 and IR3.5 configurations, so the exact model parameters should be checked individually.
All five models have an Ø82 mm outer diameter, but their bit shanks, top sub threads, working pressure ranges, recommended rotation speeds, lengths, weights, and air consumption differ. Selection should therefore be based on the exact model parameters and the existing drilling system rather than the 3 inch designation alone.
The bit shank is a primary selection point because the DTH hammer and drill bit must use the corresponding connection configuration.
MSD3A DTH Hammer — Uses an MSD3A bit shank.
DHD3.5 DTH Hammer — Uses a DHD3.5 bit shank.
M30 DTH Hammer — Uses a MISSION30 bit shank.
COP32 DTH Hammer — Uses a COP32 bit shank.
IR3.5 DTH Hammer — Uses an IR3.5 bit shank.
A similar hammer diameter does not automatically confirm compatibility. Start with the bit shank required by the selected drill bit or existing drilling system, then confirm the corresponding hammer model, top sub thread, dimensions, and operating parameters.
The five configurations collectively cover Ø90–115 mm drilling, but their individual hole ranges must be checked separately.

IR3.5 — API 2 3/8"
The IR3.5 connection should not be automatically treated as an API 2 3/8" REG thread. The listed top sub thread must be checked against the drill-pipe connection and any adapter used in the drill string before the configuration is confirmed.
The five models do not share one common working pressure or rotation-speed range.
MSD3A, DHD3.5, M30, and COP32 Working Pressure — 1.0–1.7 MPa
IR3.5 Working Pressure — 1.0–2.5 MPa (145–350 PSI)
MSD3A, M30, and COP32 Recommended Rotation Speed — 30–50 r/min
DHD3.5 Recommended Rotation Speed — 30–60 r/min
IR3.5 Recommended Rotation Speed — 25–40 r/min
The rig settings should be checked against the selected hammer rather than against a general 3 inch category. The wider working-pressure range of IR3.5 does not mean that the same settings should be applied to the other four models.
Air consumption differs by model and is listed in two different unit formats. The original confirmed units should be used when checking the available air supply.
MSD3A — 4 m³/min at 1.0 MPa and 6.5 m³/min at 1.5 MPa
DHD3.5 — 4.5 m³/min at 1.0 MPa and 8.5 m³/min at 1.5 MPa
M30 — 4 m³/min at 1.0 MPa and 6.5 m³/min at 1.5 MPa
COP32 — 4 m³/min at 1.0 MPa and 6.5 m³/min at 1.5 MPa
IR3.5 — 200–600 CFM
The compressor should provide the required working pressure and sufficient discharge capacity for the selected hammer's listed air consumption. The IR3.5 airflow range should remain in CFM and should not be converted, divided into pressure points, or estimated from the other models.
Compressor matching should also consider the actual hose, drill pipe, connection arrangement, and expected pressure loss in the drilling system.
A 3 inch DTH hammer may be considered when the required hole diameter falls within the selected model's confirmed Ø90–110 mm or Ø90–115 mm range.
Target Hole Diameter — Confirm that the required diameter is within the exact model range.
Bit Shank — Confirm that the drill bit uses the corresponding bit shank.
Top Sub Thread — Check that the top sub thread matches the drill pipe or selected adapter.
Compressor Output — Confirm that the compressor can provide the required pressure and sufficient discharge capacity.
Rotation Speed — Confirm that the rig can operate within the model-specific recommended rotation speed.
Application and Formation — Confirm that the selected hammer configuration suits the actual drilling conditions.
The confirmed 3 inch range extends to Ø115 mm, while the 4 inch range begins at Ø110 mm. This creates a confirmed overlap from Ø110 mm to Ø115 mm for the MSD3A, M30, COP32, and IR3.5 models, while DHD3.5 reaches only the Ø110 mm boundary and does not cover Ø111–115 mm.
Within this overlap, the decision should not be based on hole diameter alone. The bit shank, hammer outer diameter, top sub thread, compressor output, drill-string configuration, and exact model parameters should all be compared.
The Ø90–115 mm range may suit selected quarry drilling, mining blast-hole drilling, water-well drilling, construction drilling, anchor drilling, and foundation projects where this hole size is required.
The five models use different bit-shank systems and operating parameters, so application suitability should be confirmed for the selected hammer, drill bit, drill string, rig, compressor, hole depth, and formation conditions.
