3 Inch DTH Hammers

3 Inch DTH Hammers

MSD offers five 3 inch DTH hammer models for Ø90–115 mm drilling: MSD3A, DHD3.5, M30, COP32, and IR3.5. All have Ø82 mm bodies, with model-specific bit shanks, hole ranges, top sub threads, pressure ranges, rotation speeds, and air consumption.

Product descriptions

MSD 3 inch DTH hammers are available in MSD3A, DHD3.5, M30, IR3.5, and COP32 configurations for approximately 90–115 mm hole diameters. These models share a compact Ø82 mm outer diameter, while their compatible bit shanks, lengths, weights, working pressure, recommended rotation speed, and air consumption differ. Confirm the required hole diameter, bit shank, drill-pipe connection, compressor pressure, and compressor capacity before ordering.

Frequently Asked
Questions

The five models collectively cover Ø90–115 mm drilling. The MSD3A, M30, COP32, and IR3.5 DTH hammers cover Ø90–115 mm, while the DHD3.5 DTH hammer covers Ø90–110 mm. The required hole diameter should be checked against the exact range of the selected model.

The available models and corresponding bit shanks are:

  • MSD3A DTH hammer: MSD3A bit shank

  • DHD3.5 DTH hammer: DHD3.5 bit shank

  • M30 DTH hammer: MISSION30 bit shank

  • COP32 DTH hammer: COP32 bit shank

  • IR3.5 DTH hammer: IR3.5 bit shank

A similar nominal size does not automatically confirm compatibility. Start with the bit shank required by the selected drill bit or existing drilling system, then confirm the corresponding hammer model.

No. The MSD3A, DHD3.5, M30, and COP32 models use an API 2 3/8" REG top sub thread, while the IR3.5 model is listed with an API 2 3/8" connection.

The MSD3A, DHD3.5, M30, and COP32 models have a working pressure range of 1.0–1.7 MPa, while the IR3.5 has a working pressure range of 1.0–2.5 MPa. Recommended rotation speed also differs: MSD3A, M30, and COP32 use 30–50 r/min; DHD3.5 uses 30–60 r/min; and IR3.5 uses 25–40 r/min.
Check the compressor's rated pressure and rated discharge capacity against the exact air-consumption data of the selected model.

The MSD3A, M30, and COP32 models require 4 m³/min at 1.0 MPa and 6.5 m³/min at 1.5 MPa. The DHD3.5 requires 4.5 m³/min at 1.0 MPa and 8.5 m³/min at 1.5 MPa. The IR3.5 air-consumption range is listed as 200–600 CFM.

The IR3.5 value should remain in CFM and should not be converted or divided into unconfirmed pressure points. Pressure loss in the hose, drill pipe, and connection arrangement should also be considered.

Please provide:

  • required hole diameter;

  • preferred hammer model, if already known;

  • required bit shank;

  • current DTH bit model, if available;

  • top sub thread and drill-pipe connection;

  • any adapter used in the drill string;

  • drill-rig model;

  • compressor rated pressure;

  • compressor rated discharge capacity;

  • drilling application;

  • rock formation;

  • expected hole depth;

  • any current compatibility or operating problem.

This information allows the hammer, drill bit, drill string, rig, and compressor arrangement to be checked before the final configuration is confirmed.
