5 Inch DTH Hammers

5 Inch DTH Hammers

MSD 5 inch DTH hammers include MSD5A, DHD350, QL50, M50, and SD5 for Ø135–155 mm drilling. Models use Ø125/126 mm bodies, API 2 3/8" REG threads, 1.0–2.5 MPa pressure, and 30–60 r/min, with model-specific shanks and air consumption.

Product descriptions

MSD 5 inch DTH hammers are available in MSD5A, DHD350, QL50, M50, and SD5 configurations for approximately 135–155 mm hole diameters. The available models use Ø125–126 mm outer diameters and an API 2 3/8" REG connection thread, while their bit shanks, lengths, weights, hole ranges, working pressure points, and air consumption differ. Confirm the required hole diameter, bit shank, drill-pipe connection, compressor pressure, and compressor capacity before ordering.

Frequently Asked
Questions

The five models collectively cover Ø135–155 mm drilling. The DHD350, QL50, and SD5 DTH hammers cover Ø135–155 mm, while the MSD5A and M50 DTH hammers cover Ø136–155 mm. The required hole diameter should therefore be checked against the exact range of the selected model.

The available models are MSD5A, DHD350, QL50, M50, and SD5. Their corresponding bit shanks are:

  • MSD5A DTH hammer: MSD5A bit shank

  • DHD350 DTH hammer: DHD350 bit shank

  • QL50 DTH hammer: QL50 bit shank

  • M50 DTH hammer: MISSION50 bit shank

  • SD5 DTH hammer: SD5 bit shank

A similar nominal size does not automatically confirm compatibility. The selected drill bit or existing drilling system should be used to confirm the required bit shank and hammer model.

The MSD5A, QL50, and M50 DTH hammers have an Ø126 mm outer diameter, while the DHD350 and SD5 models have an Ø125 mm outer diameter.

However, all five models use an API 2 3/8" REG top sub thread, operate within a confirmed working pressure range of 1.0–2.5 MPa, and have a recommended rotation speed of 30–60 r/min. Their length, weight, hole range, bit shank, and air consumption still differ.
Check the compressor's rated pressure and rated discharge capacity against the exact air-consumption values of the selected model at the intended operating pressure. The five hammers do not have identical airflow requirements, even though they belong to the same nominal size class.

The compressor should provide the required pressure and sufficient discharge capacity for the selected hammer's listed air consumption. Airflow requirements should not be estimated from the 5 inch designation or extrapolated beyond the confirmed pressure points.

Please provide:

  • required hole diameter;

  • preferred hammer model, if already known;

  • required bit shank;

  • current DTH bit model, if available;

  • top sub thread and drill-pipe connection;

  • any adapter used in the drill string;

  • drill-rig model;

  • compressor rated pressure;

  • compressor rated discharge capacity;

  • drilling application;

  • rock formation;

  • expected hole depth;

  • any current compatibility or operating problem.

This information allows the hammer, drill bit, drill string, rig, and compressor arrangement to be checked before the final configuration is confirmed.
