6 Inch DTH Hammers

6 Inch DTH Hammers

MSD offers six 6 inch DTH hammer models for Ø150–216 mm drilling: MSD6A, DHD360, QL60, M60, SD6, and MSD7A. All use API 3 1/2" REG threads and 30–60 r/min, with model-specific shanks, hole ranges, pressure ranges, and air consumption.

Product descriptions

MSD 6 inch DTH hammers are available in MSD6A, DHD360, QL60, M60, SD6, and MSD7A configurations for approximately 150–216 mm hole diameters. The available models use Ø142–165 mm outer diameters and an API 3 1/2" REG connection thread, while their bit shanks, lengths, weights, hole ranges, working pressure points, and air consumption differ. Confirm the required hole diameter, bit shank, drill-pipe connection, compressor pressure, and compressor capacity before ordering.

Frequently Asked
Questions

The six models collectively cover Ø150–216 mm drilling, but each model has its own confirmed range:

  • MSD6A DTH hammer: Ø158–203 mm

  • DHD360 DTH hammer: Ø150–190 mm

  • QL60 DTH hammer: Ø158–190 mm

  • M60 DTH hammer: Ø152–203 mm

  • SD6 DTH hammer: Ø150–190 mm

  • MSD7A DTH hammer: Ø178–216 mm

The required hole diameter should be checked against the exact range of the selected model.

The available models and corresponding bit shanks are:

  • MSD6A DTH hammer: MSD6A bit shank

  • DHD360 DTH hammer: DHD360 bit shank

  • QL60 DTH hammer: QL60 bit shank

  • M60 DTH hammer: MISSION60 bit shank

  • SD6 DTH hammer: SD6 bit shank

  • MSD7A DTH hammer: MSD7A bit shank

A similar nominal hammer size does not automatically confirm compatibility. Start with the bit shank required by the selected drill bit or existing drilling system, then confirm the corresponding hammer model, top sub thread, dimensions, and operating requirements.

All six models use an API 3 1/2" REG top sub thread and have a recommended rotation speed of 30–60 r/min.

Their outer diameter, working pressure, length, weight, hole range, bit shank, and air consumption differ by model. The outer diameters range from Ø142 mm to Ø165 mm. The MSD6A operates at 1.2–2.5 MPa; the DHD360, QL60, and SD6 operate at 1.0–2.5 MPa; the M60 operates at 1.0–2.8 MPa; and the MSD7A operates at 1.5–2.8 MPa.
Check the compressor's rated pressure and rated discharge capacity against the selected hammer's confirmed working-pressure range and listed air-consumption values.

The six models do not have identical pressure or airflow requirements. The compressor should provide the required pressure and sufficient discharge capacity at the intended operating point. Air consumption should not be estimated from the 6 inch designation or extrapolated beyond the confirmed pressure points.

Please provide:

  • required hole diameter;

  • preferred hammer model, if already known;

  • required bit shank;

  • current DTH bit model, if available;

  • top sub thread and drill-pipe connection;

  • any adapter used in the drill string;

  • drill-rig model;

  • compressor rated pressure;

  • compressor rated discharge capacity;

  • drilling application;

  • rock formation;

  • expected hole depth;

  • any current compatibility or operating problem.

This information allows the hammer, drill bit, drill string, rig, and compressor arrangement to be checked before the final configuration is confirmed.
