Frequently Asked
Questions

MSD lists three steel body PDC bit groups: Standard PDC Bits, Big Flush PDC Bits, and Jetted PDC Bits. The current tables contain five Standard configurations, six Big Flush configurations, and six Jetted configurations, each identified by diameter, connection, blade count, and ports.
Compare the required diameter, connection, blade count, and port arrangement shown in each row, then review the formation and working condition, drilling method, rig and drill string, and flushing method. The configuration-group name alone does not confirm suitability or operating performance.
Start with the required finished hole diameter and match the connection to the drill string. Then use the same table row to confirm the blade count and ports. Do not combine values from different rows without review, even when the nominal diameter or configuration-group name is similar.
MSD can review requirements for water well, mining, geothermal, and construction or engineering drilling, as well as non-standard configurations. Availability and suitability must be confirmed from the requested dimensions, connection, blade and port arrangement, drilling conditions, equipment information, and any supplied drawing, photograph, or sample.
Provide the required configuration group if known, hole diameter, full-hole drilling application, formation and working condition, rig and drill-string information, connection, flushing method, blade and port requirements, and quantity. For replacements, also send product markings, clear photographs, measured dimensions, drawings, or a sample where available.
