Threaded Button Bits

Threaded Button Bits

MSD manufactures threaded button bits for top hammer drilling, including R32, T38, T45, T51 and selected ST thread systems, with Normal, Retrac, flat-face and drop-center configurations for mining, quarrying and tunneling.

Product Descriptions

MSD manufactures threaded button bits for top hammer drilling using YK05 tungsten carbide buttons and cold pressing technology. Available thread systems include R32, T38, T45, T51 and selected ST models. Product options include Normal and Retrac designs, flat-face and drop-center faces, and spherical, ballistic or conical button configurations. Each bit undergoes hardness testing and gauge inspection under MSD’s ISO 9001 quality management. Available diameters, button layouts, weights and part numbers vary by thread and model. To confirm the correct threaded button bit, provide the drill rig model, thread type, required bit diameter, rock formation and drilling application.

Frequently Asked
Questions

MSD supplies threaded button bits for R32, T38, T45, T51, ST58, ST60, and ST68 thread systems. Available options include selected Normal and Retrac body types, Flat Face and Drop Center designs, and different button layouts. Available diameters, weights, and part numbers vary by thread and model, so the parameter table should be checked for the confirmed configurations.
Normal button bits are commonly used where the borehole remains relatively stable. Retrac button bits use an extended skirt and rear cutting features and are commonly considered for fractured, fissured, or unstable formations where additional guidance and easier retraction may be required. The correct body type depends on the thread system, hole condition, rock formation, hole depth, and current drilling problem.
First confirm the thread of the existing drill rod or current bit, because R32, T38, T45, and T51 are different connection systems. Then confirm the required bit diameter, drill rig model, rod length, hole depth, rock formation, drilling application, and whether a Normal or Retrac body is required. Diameter alone is not enough to confirm compatibility.
Selected MSD threaded button bits are available with Flat Face or Drop Center designs and spherical, ballistic, or conical button configurations. Availability varies by thread, diameter, body type, and button layout. The final face and button configuration should be confirmed according to the parameter table, rock formation, abrasiveness, flushing requirements, and required hole quality.
Provide the drill rig model, existing drill rod thread, required bit diameter, hole depth, rock formation, drilling application, current bit marking or photos, and required quantity. If the preferred Normal or Retrac body type is known, include it as well. If not, describe the current drilling problem or borehole condition so MSD can help check the suitable configuration.
