MSD supplies TCI tricone bits for water well, mining and blasthole rotary drilling. Compare listed sizes, IADC codes, API pin threads, WOB, air pressure and RPM before technical confirmation.
MSD TCI Tricone Bits are listed in bit sizes from 5 1/8" to 12 1/4". Use the parameter table below to compare the available Bit Size, IADC Code, API Pin Thread, WOB, Minimum Air Pressure, RPM, and corresponding weight information before confirming the required configuration.
| Bit Size | IADC Code | API Pin Thread | Bit Weight (kg) | Bit Box Weight (kg) | WOB (x1000 lbs) | Minimum Air Pressure | RPM |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 1/8" | 5-3-2 | 2 7/8" | 11,0 | 2,4 | 15 to 33 | 60psi at Cabin & 35 to 40 psi at the bit nozzle | 50 to 150 |
| 5 5/8" | 5-3-2 | 3 1/2" | 12,0 | 2,4 | 16.5 to 36.5 | 60psi at Cabin & 35 to 40 psi at the bit nozzle | 50 to 150 |
| 5 7/8" | 5-3-2 | 3 1/2" | 14,0 | 2,4 | 17.5 to 38 | 60psi at Cabin & 35 to 40 psi at the bit nozzle | 50 to 150 |
| 5 7/8" | 5-4-2 | 3 1/2" | 14,0 | 2,4 | 17.5 to 38 | 60psi at Cabin & 35 to 40 psi at the bit nozzle | 50 to 150 |
| 5 7/8" | 6-3-2 | 3 1/2" | 14,0 | 2,4 | 23.5 to 41 | 60psi at Cabin & 35 to 40 psi at the bit nozzle | 50 to 120 |

CASE STUDIES
TCI identifies the tungsten carbide insert cutter type used in this product range. MSD TCI tricone bits are rotary drilling products supplied in multiple diameter, IADC, connection, and operating-parameter configurations.
This page is limited to TCI configurations. Steel Tooth products use a different cutter type and are covered on the dedicated Steel Tooth Tricone Bits page. Cutter type should therefore be confirmed before comparing individual sizes or operating data.
Begin selection with the required hole diameter. The current MSD table lists TCI tricone bit sizes from 5 1/8" to 12 1/4", with specific IADC codes and operating data provided for each available entry.
The IADC code should be reviewed together with the available formation information rather than treated as a size reference alone. Customers should provide the formation description and any existing bit code or drilling records so that the required TCI configuration can be checked.
WOB and RPM values are listed by table entry and vary between configurations. These values should be reviewed for the selected size and IADC code instead of being transferred from another model solely because the nominal diameter is similar.
The API pin thread shown for each TCI tricone drill bit must match the mating connection in the rotary drill string. Bit size alone does not confirm connection compatibility, and different entries may use different API pin thread sizes.
For an existing drilling system, provide the mating connection, drill-string information, current bit markings, and available photographs or drawings. If a bearing or seal configuration is required, state that requirement separately because the current parameter table does not identify a bearing or seal type.
MSD TCI tricone bits can be reviewed for water well, mining, and blasthole rotary drilling requirements. Application type alone does not determine the final bit: the required diameter, formation information, IADC code, API pin connection, drill rig, and operating conditions must be considered together.
The listed WOB, Minimum Air Pressure, and RPM information provides a configuration-specific reference for comparison. Technical confirmation should be based on the exact table entry and the available rig and air-supply information.
For technical confirmation or quotation, provide the required bit size, formation description, preferred or existing IADC code, API pin thread, drill-rig and drill-string information, available WOB, RPM, air pressure, drilling application, and required quantity.
For replacement requirements, also provide the current bit markings, photographs, drawings, or previous order information where available. MSD can review the supplied information and confirm an available TCI tricone bit configuration before quotation.
